Characteristics of the department

The department deals with issues in the field of breeding and diseases of game, fish and bees. It provides teaching of selected disciplines in the study programmes General Veterinary Medicine, Food Hygiene, Cynology, Feed and Food Safety, Man-Animal Relationship and its Use in Canistherapy and Hippotherapy, Pharmacy, Animal Welfare and Protection, and Veterinary Nurse. The department closely cooperates with the University Facility for Breeding and Diseases of Game, Fish and Bees in Rozhanovce.

The department is the guaranteeing workplace for the study programme Cynology. The teachers and scientists of the department act as professional guarantors for three cynological clubs and a beekeeping club.

The department performs specialized, advisory, and diagnostic activities for hunting, cynological, and fishing associations. It cooperates with organizations such as Military Forests and Estates, Forests of the Slovak Republic, Slovak Hunters Chamber, Slovak Hunting Union, Slovak Angling Association, Slovak Beekeepers Association, and Slovak Cynological Union.

The department was established on 1 September 2020 by expanding the former Institute for Breeding and Diseases of Game and Fish. It is located in Pavilion No. 2.
