LACTOVIR – Lactobacilli and Viruses in Veterinary Medicine

The Accreditation Commission, an advisory body of the Government of the Slovak Republic, after releasing the second call for "Identification of the Top Research Teams of Universities in Slovakia" received 52 proposals and decided that only 17 met the demanding criteria in June 2017. One of them is also the Top Team from UVMP called

Team´s scientific characteristic::
LACTOVIR team is composed of members which are part of the Center of Excellence for Animal Diseases and Zoonoses - INFEKTZOON. The team is concerned on the study of viral animal diseases and the beneficial bacteria - probiotic preparations that are used to combat infectious diseases.
One part of the team is focused on epizootic analysis of viral infections in livestock and wildlife animals by using molecular epidemiology methods, diagnostics of infectious diseases using the latest molecular-genetic methods, identification of microorganisms, viral genome analysis, genetic typing of viruses. The other part of the team is concerned on the study and use of Lactobacilli and the development of preventive preparations - Probiotics to combat infectious animal diseases.
LACTOVIR team pays attention to infectious agents as pestivirus, PRRSV, PCV2, enteral infections that infect cattle, pigs, sheep, wild boars and humans.
Scientific activities of both parts of the team are significant linked together and are focused on analysis and prevention of diseases mainly in livestock of different etiologies.
