University Facility for Breeding and Diseases of Game, Fish and Bees in Rozhanovce

Special facility for breeding and diseases of game, fish and bees in Rozhanovce provides space for pedagogical and research activities focusing on aspects of breeding and disease of game, fish and bees. As part of the pedagogical process, the practical part of the teaching of subjects „diseases of game“, „diseases of fish, bees“, „farm breeding“, „hunting“, and in the study programme of cynology „performance and dog training III. - hunting dogs“ are carried out in this facility. - Hunting dogs.
The established workplaces provide the opportunity for experimental research activities, both within the UVMP and on joint projects with other institutions. The university has entered into a project of rehabilitation stations network, which covers the ZOO in Bojnice. In the premises of the special facility are built and used premises of rehabilitation station for protected animal species. The LIFE Energy project, which aims to systematically address the issue of collisions of birds with wirings by designing appropriate ways of identifying and eliminating this risk was implemented. UVMP is the partner in this project.
For pedagogical purposes and for research activities, the special facilty also has a small pond.
The special facility is focused on farming of the common pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) and its subspecies. The tribal pheasant flock represents approximately 500 pieces with the production of approximately 5000 bred pheasants.
At present, there are 20 bee colonies in the special facility, and there are also operating areas for apiaries and honey obtaining. In this area UVMP cooperates with the Institute of Apiculture of the National Agricultural and Food Center of the Research Institute of Animal Production Research Centre Nitra in Liptovský Hrádok.
Wild boar training enclosed space for the training of breeds of hunting dogs is a part of the special facility.
