Great news from Dublin! UVMP has received international accreditation again!
At the meeting of the European Committee for Veterinary Education (ECOVE) on 12 June 2025 in Dublin, the Rector of the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice, Jozef Nagy, received a certificate from the European Association of Institutions for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) on the award of the “Accredited” status. The certificate confirms that in accordance with the European System for the Evaluation of Veterinary Education (ESEVT) and based on the educational requirements of Directive 2005/36/EC as amended by Directive 2013/55/EU, the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice is an accredited institution of the European Committee for Veterinary Education (ECOVE). The granted status confirmed by the President of EAEVE prof. Petra Winter and the President of ECOVE prof. Gaspar Ros Berruez is valid until April 2032. By obtaining the accreditation, the UVMP reaffirmed its current international status, which it obtained for ten years in November 2016.
"In Dublin we received an extremely important certificate which entitles us to continue to be members of the prestigious list of veterinary training institutions in Europe. Being an internationally accredited university for us means that when choosing a place of study, young people from all over Europe, as well as from other countries around the world, will choose Košice among others. They will choose a place that provides high quality education, knowledge and skills. It is a question of the future of our educational institution, its international recognition, so that in the next period it will also be among the universities accredited by the European Association of Institutions for Veterinary Education (EAEVE). International accreditation is key to our long-term goals and strategic plans. It is a great result of the work of all pedagogical, scientific and non-teaching staff, students and supporters of our University," said the Rector of UVMPJozef Nagy after receiving the certificate.

The award of accreditation was preceded by a complex assessment process, which included a week-long visit in April by an international visiting team, which included experts from Turkey, Norway, Spain, Italy, France, the UK, Belgium and Romania. Directly in Košice, they assessed the study programmes of general veterinary medicine in Slovak and English and food hygiene according to the ESEVT criteria, which is an internationally recognised system for the assessment of undergraduate veterinary training.
The international rating system provides assurances to three groups: for the public, it means confidence in the quality of graduates, veterinarians, and the quality of the services they provide; for veterinary students, it confirms a high level of education that reaches agreed and acceptable standards; for veterinary educational institutions, it provides confidence that the standard of the schools and the content of the curricula of their curricula reaches an agreed benchmark level.
