Summer School 2022

University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice organizes the intensive course (Summer School) Basic podiatry in bovine and equine species on August 20 – 28, 2022 in the frame of the CEEPUS programme within the VetNest Network (Veterinary Network of European Student and Staff Transfer).

The intensive course is intended for students of veterinary medicine (from 4th year of study) interested in large animal orthopaedic mainly podiatry from each VetNEST-Extended partner institution and free- movers.

The aim of the intensive course, involving lectures and hands - on workshops in the form of case-based learning and team-based learning is:

  • to teach students to understand hoof and claw anatomy and biomechanics, including the mechnism and management of basic pathological configurations of hooves, teach basic trimming of hooves and principles of farriery practice.
  • to provide to its participants the basic theoretical and practical knowledge about claw diseases in dairy cattle that contribute significantly to poor welfare on dairy farms.

The course will take place at the University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice (UVMP), at the Equestrian Centre of UVMP and at the University Agricultural Farm in Zemplínska Teplica, with training organized by qualified diplomates and European specialists in bovine medicine Prof. Pavol Mudroň, D.V.M., PhD., Dipl. ECBHM and in equine medicine Zdeněk Žert, D.V.M., PhD., Dipl. ECVS.

The official language of the Summer School is English.

The number of participants is limited (maximum 20).
