Rector's directive in connection with the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease

RECTOR’S DIRECTIVE No. 2/2025

In connection with the occurrence of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the territory of the Slovak Republic and the subsequent measures taken by the UVMP in Košice,

I hereby order the following:

  1. Unauthorized persons are not allowed to enter the stables of the Clinic of Ruminants, Clinic of Swine, Clinic of Horses, the stables of the Department of Animal Nutrition and Husbandry in the Pri hati area, Equestrian Centre and the University Facility for Breeding and Diseases of Game, Fish and Bees in Rozhanovce. The prohibition of entry applies to the entire area of University Farm in Zemplínska Teplica, and the area of the Agropodnik SLAMOZ, spol. s r. o., in Zemplínska Teplica.
  2. Students are allowed to enter the stables of the Clinic of Ruminants, Clinic of Swine, Clinic of Horses and Equestrian Centre, in line with the prescribed biosecurity measures.
  3. Entry to the above mentioned facilities is possible only after the students sign a declaration that they have not visited a susceptible animal farm in the past week, have not used clothing and footwear from a visit to a susceptible animal farm, have not participated in hunting during 48 hours before visiting the above mentioned facilities and have not visited regions designated in the protection and surveillance zone.
  4. If a student has participated in an extramural practice with a private veterinarian on farms of susceptible animal species, they are not allowed to enter the stables of the above mentioned facilities within a 5-day protection period. Missing practicals at these facilities during the protection period do not have to be compensated.
  5. Field trips to food animal farms, including other susceptible animal farms, are prohibited. Field trips to food production plants are allowed.
  6. Transfer of susceptible animals outside the stables is prohibited. Intake of patients from outside the FMD areas, and areas outside the protection and supervision is permitted in justified cases.
  7. Immediately prepare a registry of animals present at the Clinic of Ruminants, Clinic of Swine, Clinic of Horses, the stables of the Department of Animal Nutrition and Husbandry in the Pri hati area, Equestrian Centre and the University Facility for Breeding and Diseases of Game, Fish and Bees in Rozhanovce. and the University Farm in Zemplínska Teplica, and the area of the Agropodnik SLAMOZ, spol. s r. o., in Zemplínska Teplica.
  8. Employees of clinics and all above mentioned facilities are obliged to comply with the principles of biosecurity in accordance with the internal regulation Principles of Biosecurity at the UVMP in Košice.
  9. At the Equestrian Centre, horse owners and by them authorized persons and students of the riding school are obliged to comply with the principles of biosecurity.
  10. The heads of clinics, heads of special university facilities and the director of the University Farm in Zemplínska Teplica and Agropodnik SLAMOZ, spol. s r. o., in Zemplínska Teplica are responsible for compliance with the Rector’s Directive.

This Directive enters into force and becomes effective on March 21st 2025 and is valid until further notice.
