Guidance on the occurrence of foot-and-mouth disease

In the context of the outbreak of foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) in the territory of the Hungary, the extension of the surveillance zone to the territory of the Slovak Republic (Komárno and Dunajská Streda districts) and on the basis of the recommendations of the Director General of the State Veterinary and Food Administration of the Slovak Republic, it is necessary to apply the following:

  1. Comply with the general principles of biosecurity of the UVMP in Košice.
  2. Inform the staff and students of UVMP in  Košice about the occurrence of FMD and related measures.
  3. It is forbidden for unauthorized persons to enter the premises of the Clinic of Ruminant and the Clinic of  Swine. Students are allowed to enter the clinics, but only after passing through the hygiene filter.
  4. Employees of the ruminant clinic, the pig clinic and employees of the University Farm in Zemplínska Teplica are obliged to monitor the health status of susceptible species.
  5. In the University Facility for Breeding and Diseases of Game, Fish and Bees in Rozhanovce, monitor changes in the behaviour or health status of the game.
  6. In case of suspicion of disease, the Vice-Rector for Clinical Activities and Professional Relations should be informed immediately, who will ensure cooperation with the relevant state administration authorities.
