INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN THE CONTEXT OF ONE HEALTH

INFECTIOUS DISEASES IN THE CONTEXT OF ONE HEALTH

The University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice is organizing an international scientific conference titled “Infectious Diseases in the Context of One Health” on September 9–10, 2026.

The aim of the event is to provide a platform for discussion on research that contributes to the dissemination of new theoretical, methodological, and empirical knowledge and to a better understanding of the spread of infectious diseases. The “One Health” concept represents an integrated and unifying approach aimed at maintaining long-term balance and optimizing the health of humans, animals, and ecosystems. It is based on the principle that the health of humans, domestic and wild animals, plants, and the entire environment is closely interconnected and interdependent. This approach promotes collaboration across multiple scientific disciplines at various levels of society to protect health, address threats to ecosystems, and simultaneously meet shared needs such as clean water, air, and energy; safe and nutritious food; and active measures against climate change. From a medical perspective, the “One Health” concept has long placed significant emphasis on zoonoses in particular. In the 21st century, the rate of emergence of new zoonotic diseases is rising sharply. Epidemiological studies show that up to 75% of newly emerging pathogens have zoonotic potential.
