On Wednesday, May 26, 2021, Rector Jana Mojžišová signed a new version of the Magna Charter University. The University of Veterinary Medicine and Pharmacy in Košice joins more than 900 universities from all continents that adhere to academic values. These values form the main message of the Charter: the independence of academic freedom, access to education, freedom of scientific research and the interconnection of educational and research activities.
The new version of the Magna Charter University (MCU 2020) responds to current challenges and threats. He recognizes that finding fundamental values and achieving them are just as important. It supports the global nature of what universities do, but also the responsibility for what is happening in the regions where they operate. Universities are part of the public space and participate in the creation of public policies. The MCU 2020 program was developed by an international group. The formal launch will take place at a virtual event on 16 and 17 June 2021.
"The principles set out in the Magna Carta Universitatum are as valid today as they were at the time of its creation. Today, universities also have a civic role and responsibility. They are part of global and partner networks in scientific research, they develop common knowledge. But universities are also part of regional and local communities, they have an impact on what is happening in their surroundings. They must therefore develop in both directions. We also consider it very important to support learning as a lifelong activity," said Rector Jana Mojžišová about the new version of the document.
The Magna Carta Universitatum is the basic charter that defines the academic freedoms and institutional autonomy of today's universities. The charter was signed on the occasion of the 900th anniversary of the founding of the University of Bologna in 1988. UVLF became part of the association on September 18, 2018 in Salamanca (Universidad de Salamanca)
