Teaching activities

Institute of Pathological Anatomy

Institute of Pathological Anatomy performs within the frame of subject Pathological Anatomy the education of macroscopical and microscopical changes developing during pathological processes. The education is divided into two parts – General and Special Pathology and involves practical lessons (necropsies and histological ones) and lectures. The aim of Diagnostic Pathology is the presentation of pathological changes of important diseases in different types of animals and their differential diagnosis. Applied Cytology presents cytology as morphological diagnostic method useful in different types of organs and tissues under different pathological processes. The subject Pathology realized in the study programme Pharmacy (for Slovak students only) offers general information about different pathological processes and subject Guidelines to GLP represents the introduction of GLP guides to laboratories.

General veterinary medicine:
  • Pathological Anatomy
  • Diagnostic Pathology
  • Applied Cytology (compulsory optional subject)
Post bachelor study programme general veterinary medicine:
  • Pathological Anatomy
  • Diagnostic Pathology

Institute of Pathological Physiology

Institute of Pathological Physiology provides teaching courses of Pathological physiology and Applied veterinary haematology in the study programs General Veterinary Medicine and Food Hygiene in Slovak and English language; in the study program Pharmacy there is education in the subject of Physiology and pathological physiology for Slovak students. Institute of Pathological Physiology prepares in postgraduate education PhD students in the field of study 6.3.3 Veterinary Morphology and Physiology. Workers of the Institute of Pathological physiology are supervisors of diploma, bachelor and rigorous theses for students in Slovak and English language. Education in programs General Veterinary Medicine, Food Hygiene, Pharmacy and study programmes in English takes the form of lectures, practical exercises and seminars. The aim of the work is to provide the students with knowledge about the physiological processes in the healthy organism, the causes of the pathological process, the regulatory mechanisms (and their disorders) that are activated in the organism during the disease as well as the possible outcomes of the pathological processes. Physiology and pathological physiology provide the basics of medical thinking, and are indispensable for the next study of clinical disciplines. Learned lessons are the basis for rational diagnostic procedures, prevention, therapy and development of new drugs The students deepened their competences from haemathology in compulsory optional subject Applied veterinary haematology. Optional lectures for students are presented using CD and DVD computer media. Practical classes emphasize the evaluation and interpretation of biochemical and haematological findings in relation to the history, pathogenesis and prognosis of the patient. The preparation, presentation and defence of seminar work is compulsory for each student. The analysis of clinical cases consolidates the acquired knowledge of the students. Workers of the Institute of Pathological physiology are supervisors of diploma, bachelor and rigorous theses for students in Slovak and English language. Institute of Pathological Physiology prepares in postgraduate education PhD students in the field of study 6.3.3 Veterinary Morphology and Physiology.
